Sidharth Malhotra wraps up Shershaah, the biopic on Captain Vikram Batra October 22, 2020 at 06:45PM
Back in January 2020, Sidharth Malhotra wrapped up the shooting of Shershaah, the biopic on the late Captain Vikram Batra. The film stars Kiara Advani opposite him. But some patchwork was remaining and it got delayed amid the pandemic that led to shut-down of productions during the lockdown. Now, after two days of work, the actor has finally wrapped up the film.
After months of staying in quarantine, Sidharth Malhotra returned to the sets earlier this week after celebrating 8 years since his debut in the film industry. He had two days worth of patchwork shoot remaining. Though Kiara did not join the shoot, some cast members did shoot alongside him at a Mumbai studio.
Apparently, Sidharth Malhotra is playing a double role since Vikram Batra has a twin brother, Vishal. While the film was supposed to release this year, a new release plan will be only announced once the post-production is completed.

The war hero went back just to save him that’s when he was hit by the enemy’s bullet in his chest. He was martyred on the spot. He was honoured with Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest and most prestigious award for valour, for his actions during the war.

Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh to reunite on October 24 for their film shoot October 22, 2020 at 06:25PM
Actors Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh were to resume their film shoot in September. But, Kapoor tested positive for COVID-19 due to which the shooting did not resume and the actress returned to Hyderabad to work on a film. Earlier in October, Arjun returned to the sets and filmed his scenes with Kanwaljit Singh.
Now, Rakul Preet Singh will join Arjun Kapoor for the next schedule on October 24. Though she is filming in Hyderabad, she will be back in Mumbai a day prior to the shoot.
Bollywood Hungama recently reported that the film is titled Sardar & Grandson. A source spilled the beans, “The film is called Sardar & Grandson. The makers of the film feel it’s an apt title considering the film’s plot. Everyone in the unit is happy with this name and is looking forward to completing it and releasing it at the apt time.”
John Abraham and Aditi Rao Hydari play Arjun’s grandparents in the film. Their track is set in 1947, around the time of India’s Independence. Neena Gupta and Kanwaljit Singh will play the present-day versions of John and Aditi.
It’s a love story spanning three-generation, starting in 1947 and continuing till 2020. EXCLUSIVE: Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari to release in cinemas but Zee Studios keeps the OTT option open if talks with multiplexes fail October 22, 2020 at 05:40PM
The theatrical trailer of the comic caper Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari was unveiled two days back and has met with a great response. Starring Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh, the trailer of the film has ‘Releasing this Diwali’ mentioned in the end. In the pre-Covid times, this wouldn’t have been a cause of concern. But in today’s times of films releasing directly to OTT, it has become imperative that if a film is being released in cinemas in the traditional way, then the same should be stressed upon in the publicity material. The makers of Akshay Kumar-starrer Bellbottom mentioned ‘Ready for Cinemas’ in the teaser that was recently unveiled. Meanwhile the new poster of Satyameva Jayate 2 also had the word ‘In Cinemas’ written in bold. With this crucial information missing out in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari trailer, many in the trade and industry are wondering if the film’s theatrical release is unconfirmed.
When contacted, Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios, exclusively tells Bollywood Hungama, “Before the pandemic broke, no trailer compulsorily wrote ‘in cinemas’, right? The moment I say ‘releasing this Diwali’, it’s understood that it’s coming in cinemas. Why are people assuming that it’s not coming to theatres?”
So will Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari release in theatres? Shariq Patel replies, “Yeah, if theatres open in Maharashtra and Punjab, then we are coming to cinemas. And there are certain terms that we are discussing with the theatre owners. It’s a theatrical release as far as we are concerned.”
When asked about the terms put forward by Zee, Shariq Patel explains, “We want the window between OTT and theatrical to be reduced to 3 weeks. Internationally too, the rule has changed and it has been reduced to 17 days. If that’s where the world is moving, then the multiplexes here are being foolhardy and are simply delaying the inevitable. We are also asking for higher terms in percentage share.” Interestingly, earlier in the West, the films had to wait for 90 days before getting a release online. For Bollywood films in India, there’s a 50-day window, however.
Shariq Patel then states that he also wants no reduction of shows in the second week. “If I am having a thousand shows on Weekend 1, I don’t want those shows to be reduced to just hundred on Weekend 2. I need an assurance that the same number of shows will be there in the second weekend as well. We need to give viewers time to warm up to the idea of going back to cinemas. It’s no longer the opening weekend game as the market is recovering.”
The producer feels he is justified for asking these terms, “If we are willing to take a risk by releasing a film in cinemas at a time when they are allowed to function at only 50% capacity, then there should be a gesture from the side of the multiplexes to appreciate it. No other filmmaker has announced the release date of its film. But we have. Hence, I hope the multiplexes take the appropriate step which would ultimately bring people back to theatres.”
The multiplexes, reportedly, fear that if the pre-Covid arrangement is changed, it can set a wrong precedent. Shariq Patel however reasons, “We have increasingly said that let everyone agree with certain terms for the next six months only. The fight for VPF and other issues that we have had since years can continue.”
Shariq Patel also makes it clear that god forbid if things don’t go as per their plan, they might have no choice but to release Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari on their online platforms. “We have got the back up of whether we want to go to Zee Plex or Zee5. As an integrated media company, we have enough options to monetize the film. And obviously, monetizing the film in theatres is why we make films, right?,” states the producer.
Earlier this month, Zee Studios released the Ishaan Khatter-Ananya Panday starrer Khaali Peeli on Zee Plex. The makers were keen to release the film on the big screen and it was to be the first film to release when theatres were allowed to reopen on October 15. However, the plan failed. Shariq Patel says, “I was a little disappointed when multiplexes didn’t let Khaali Peeli to be screened, saying that it’s an OTT release. However, it’s not; it’s a pay-per-view release. Even today, if you want to see the film, you have to pay Rs. 300. I don’t understand why multiplexes are treating us at par with an SVOD (Subscription-Video-On-Demand) film. I find it strange but I guess they have got their reasons.”

EXCLUSIVE SCOOP: Kartik Aaryan and Ram Madhvani team up for a Korean Remake; to go on floors in December October 22, 2020 at 05:08PM
Following the success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Kartik Aaryan is definitely the man in demand as almost every second film made to feature a gen-next actor is being offered to him. And the actor too has half a dozen films under his kitty ranging from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Dostana 2, Ala Vaikunthpuranloo and a couple of other undisclosed projects. Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learnt that the actor is all charged up to collaborate with Neeraj Director, Ram Madhvani for the first time on a thriller, which is inspired by a Korean film.
“It’s a subject that Kartik loved in the first narration and instantly allotted his dates to Madhvani. It’s a different space for Kartik, who so far is synonymous with rom-coms, and he is all charged up to embark on this new journey. The film is a nail biting thriller, inspired by a Korean classic, however the details have been kept under wraps,” a source told Bollywood Hungama, adding further that the film will go on the floors in December for a quick marathon schedule of 45 to 50 days, thereby calling it a wrap. “In-fact, it will be ready before his already on floors films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Dostana 2. It will most probably release during summer 2021,” the source further told Hungama.
After wrapping up this, Kartik will move onto Anees Bazmee's next horror comedy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and follow it up with Dostana 2. An official announcement is underway soon with title, producer and female lead alongside Kartik.

Sanjay Dutt beats cancer, celebrates with wife & kids October 21, 2020 at 07:35PM
A heavy load had been removed from Sanjay Dutt’s devoted wife Manayata’s head. Her husband, no stranger to pain and suffering, is apparently cancer-free. The good news is yet to sink in.
“Maanayata has been crying, praying, praying, crying. She has been with him through thick and think, through incarceration and illness. She’s the best thing to have happened to Baba. I don’t know what he would have done without her. When Baba married her—this was his third marriage—we were all sceptical. But she has proven herself to be a completely devoted wife and mother,” says a very close friend of Dutt.
As news of Dutt’s recovery spread across the industry, the congratulatory calls started coming in. Among the first to react was Ranbir Kapoor. A diehard Dutt fan, Ranbir has made it career policy to not work in bio-pics. He made one exception: the Sanjay Dutt pseudo-biopic Sanju.
Right now, Dutt doesn’t want to move out of his wife and children’s range of affection.
The close friend informs, “This brush with mortality has made Baba more domesticated than before. He wants to spend every waking minute with his twins and wife. He will go out to work when he must. Otherwise, Baba’s days of partying and drinking are over.”
In an interview to me some months ago, Sanjay Dutt had spoken of the need to stay healthy. “Staying fit is very important especially, during this time. So eat well, stay healthy and keep exercising. Time flies when I have my family with me virtually and it gives me immense joy to see them happy and dancing everywhere. Family is the greatest treasure than anything else.”

Fox Star Studios asks Ayan Mukerji to cut short the run-time of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's Brahmastra October 21, 2020 at 07:26PM
The industry and audience alike are awaiting the release of the fantasy action adventure, Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in lead along with Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles. The film, which went on floors over 2 years back, has been making the headline constantly due to the delay in release date, however some insiders who have seen some clippings can’t stop going gaga over Ayan Mukerji’s visuals, promising a never seen before cinematic experience. Recently, producer Karan Johar’s studio partner, Fox Star Studios, was acquired by international giant, Disney with the focus to bring about a change in the manner they function in India, following a not so promising run with respect to content in the country by Fox Star Studios.
Among the many changes that they are bringing in, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively discovered that the studio has asked Karan Johar and director Ayan Mukerji to restrain the film’s run time around two and a half hours, thereby enabling them to get maximum showcasing in the multiplexes and in the single screens, which would also prove beneficial from return on investment perspective. “Brahmastra is undoubtedly the costliest Hindi film till date and to make sure the returns are on the point, the stakeholders are leaving no stone unturned. While the bound screenplay of Brahmastra and the rough first cut had a run time closer to the 3 hour mark, the studio suggested the team to cut it down by at-least 30 minutes keeping in mind the changing consumption pattern of the audiences, thereby making the film a memorable experience,” a trade source told Bollywood Hungama.
A brief schedule of Brahmastra is expected to commence in November, after which it will finally be a wrap for the magnum opus after almost 190 days of shoot. “It’s more of a song and some talkie scenes which are to be shot in the final schedule of approximately 10 days. The studio is looking to bring Brahmastra during the summer 2021 weekend, and is in no mood to delay it any further. The rough cut is ready with just some visual effect work pending now, which is going on in full swing. The sequences that remain to be shot won’t require too much of post-production, thereby enabling the team to lock the final edit quickly after the wrap and release the film,” the trade source further added, and further told that the priority for Disney is extremely clear and the focus is on the bottom line with expenses to be justified and kept under control. “The constant delay is more like an overhead for the studio.”
Brahmastra is produced by Karan Johar and is being planned as an ambitious trilogy. It marks the reunion of Ranbir with director Ayan after Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawani Hai Dewani.

Saif Ali Khan quashes rumours about buying back Pataudi Palace from a hotel for Rs. 800 crores October 21, 2020 at 07:25PM
Saif Ali Khan recently flew back to Mumbai from Pataudi in Haryana after a month-long stay there. He had decided to take some time off and spend it with his family including his mother, actor Sharmila Tagore at their ancestral home. He had been enjoying the idyllic life back there, enjoying the quietude of the place and watching his three-year-old, Taimur Ali Khan, feeding squirrels.
In the recent past, rumours have been doing the rounds that the actor has bought back his ancestral palace from Neemrana Group of Hotels and that, his late father, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had given the property to the hotel group on lease for Rs. 800 crores. Quashing the conjecture, Saif calls it “a massive exaggeration” and “a miscommunication”. He says, “It’s impossible to put a value to it in monetary terms because emotionally, the property is priceless. Contrary to reports, I did not have to buy it back because I already owned it.”
He holds the Pataudi Palace very close to his heart and is spiritually connected to it. Saif elaborates, “My grandparents and father are buried there, there's security, serenity and a spiritual connection there for me. The land goes back by a few centuries, but the palace that my grandfather built for my grandmother is around a hundred years old. He was the ruling monarch then, but since then, privy purses and titles have been abolished. These are different times, which is why my father leased it out, and Francis (Wacziarg) and Aman (Nath), who ran a hotel in the palace, took good care of the property and were like family. My mother has a cottage there and she was always comfortable.”
After his father’s demise in 2011, Saif wanted to have the palace back in the family. In his signature candour, he says, “So, when I was offered the chance, I wrapped up the lease that was left, paid up, and took possession of our home again. It was a fair financial arrangement. In my teenage years, I was the black sheep, so, it feels nice now to do this for the family and our heritage.”
On the work front, Saif Ali kHAN will soon be jetting off to Dharamshala where he will begin the first schedule of Bhoot Police. He wrapped up the shoot of Bunty Aur Babli 2 last month, has Adipurush lined up for a 2022 release where he will be seen playing a menacing villain and will be essaying an interesting character in Ali Abbas Zafar’s web show.
